The Fabric of Jenkintown
Join us on April 24 at 5:30pm to celebrate the ancestral heritage and diversity of our student and school community at our inaugural The Fabric of Jenkintown event! In collaboration with You, the families of JES, we will exchange traditions and celebrate our uniqueness by hosting tables representing locations that you choose. Our children will each get a passport and take a trip around the world, visiting the various locations that are represented at decorated tables. We will have a reading nook, art area, and more!
After the children explore the cultures and communities around the world, we are thrilled to announce that we will be welcoming RhythmetriX at The Fabric of Jenkintown! Their musicians will lead us through an interactive drum circle and musical experience that can’t be missed!
How to participate:
Families can sign up online to share about different locations across the globe, from US states to countries and continents. Diversity is what makes this collaboration interesting and exciting! Your family can choose a location from which you are proud to have ancestry, where the heritage is celebrated in your home; it can be a place that you are just beginning to learn about, or a place that you are interested in learning and sharing about. You certainly don’t need to be an expert to share about your region. Maybe this is an opportunity for your family to learn more about a piece of your heritage that you haven’t explored yet. There are many families here at JES, with ancestry from all over the world, and we want to highlight that at The Fabric of Jenkintown.
Several families can sign up for the same place, and you can work together or separately. Where does your family feel ties to? We’d love to learn about it.
If you’re wondering what to bring to decorate your table, think of anything that tells us about your particular location.
Here are some ideas: flags, posters, books, snacks/foods, games/toys, photos, jewelry, clothing, textiles, souvenirs, artifacts, recipes, etc. You can share about the languages, traditions, customs, holidays, videos, and role models that have ancestry there too.
If you’d like to bring a dish to share, a printed ingredient list would be great.
Let’s come together in joyful celebration to honor the similarities, and the differences, that makes Jenkintown so special. Please let us know if you have any questions!
